Felton Institute’s Senior Companion Program (SCP) is designed to assist and encourage homebound seniors to engage in personal and community activities, cultivating friendships that can last a lifetime.

We place AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers into our Senior Companion Program. Limited-income, mobile seniors provide companionship services 15-30 hours per week to frail, isolated, and homebound seniors, age 55 and older.

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are matched within seniors’ homes or senior sites to aide other seniors with social isolation and peer-to-peer companion activities. They serve in adult day health centers and senior centers, engaging at-risk seniors in on-site activities.  AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are supervised by case managers.

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers receive a small, hourly, Receive a small, TAX-FREE hourly stipend (that will not affect governmental benefits) and transportation reimbursement for their contribution. Applicants must be age 55 or older with a max income of $2,265/month (if single) or $3,052/month (if married) in order to receive a federal stipend.

Specialized Senior Peer Escorts assist people with cognitive impairments so they can continue to ride safely on group vans and attend essential day programs. Senior Peer Counselors are a specialized unit of the Senior Companion Program, trained in working with older adults with mental health concerns.

Small hourly stipends are provided. No fees are charged to participants or volunteers.
