Engaging, play-based sessions that help young children explore, connect, and reach developmental milestones together.
Felton’s Play and & Learn Groups are led by an Early Interventionist (EI) in a 1:2 adult-to-child ratio (one adult and two children). Sessions take place once a week for 60 minutes and follow a play-based, child-led curriculum that supports each child’s Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP).
The playgroups focus on developmentally appropriate activities that promote communication, social skills, and overall early childhood development for children from birth to three years old.
Our Play & Learn Groups support children ages 0–3 who are experiencing moderate developmental delays but may not meet eligibility requirements for formal intervention.
The program serves children with delays of 33% or more in at least one developmental domain, providing opportunities to build skills and confidence through engaging, play-based activities in a supportive, inclusive environment across our early childhood sites in San Francisco.
Before joining a playgroup, children complete developmental screenings to help monitor progress and identify areas of need. Each child receives three individualized developmental goals, which are naturally embedded into the playgroup’s daily routines.
Playgroup activities include:
- Group Circle Time: Caregivers and children participate in welcoming and closing circle times to build community, strengthen child-caregiver relationships, and model engagement through songs and reading activities.
- Curriculum: Weekly songs and activities are centered around a featured book, with access to materials shared through weekly announcements
- Family Communication: Families connect with Early Interventionists (EIs) before and after each session, either in person or through session notes. Photos, artwork, and updates may also be shared to support family engagement.
Interested families should contact their Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC) Service Coordinator to request adding this service to their child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Families who are not yet eligible for GGRC can contact the center directly to begin a developmental assessment and determine eligibility.
Families may be enrolled in Felton’s Early Care & Education (ECE) programs but this is not a requirement of the program. For children not enrolled in ECE programming, parents must stay on- site during the service.
To apply or learn more, please contact the Golden Gate Regional Center at 1 (888) 339-3305.
Services may be available at each of our Early Care & Education (ECE) site locations depending on capacity.
