SCSEP Applicant Interest Form

We appreciate your interest in joining the Felton Institute’s Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP)Please complete the questionnaire by filling out and submitting the form below or by emailing your resume, contact information and the questionnaire answers directly to scsep@felton.org . This information will be used to screen your eligibility to apply for enrollment in SCSEP.

If you appear to be eligible and there are openings in Felton Institute’s SCSEP, a representative from Felton SCSEP will reach out to you within 5-10 business days to confirm your eligibility, and if eligible, assist you in completing the full application process. When contacted, you will be required to provide written documentation of age, total family income and other characteristics.

How does SCSEP work?

The purpose of the SCSEP is to offer a “stepping stone” back into the workforce.

Funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act, SCSEP helps people find employment by providing paid training assignments and job search assistance.

What does the SCSEP program offer participants?

As a SCSEP participant you will:

  • Improve your skills through an internship – Train at a non-profit organization or a public agency where you will have an opportunity to refresh and learn new skills in a real-world environment. During this time you will be paid minimum wage for 20 hours per week and may qualify for additional training.
  • Improve your job search skills and receive assistance with connecting to employers. Staff will work with you to improve your job search skills and help you find a job. You will have access to workshops (e.g., resume writing and computer classes)

SCSEP will help you develop a customized Employment Plan to assist you with the goal of getting a job.

Participants are required to attend training classes, and workshops, as well as actively participate in their job search to help increase their occupational and job search skills.

How much does SCSEP pay enrolled participants?

We pay a training stipend to enrolled SCSEP participants:

  • San Francisco: $18.07 / hr for 12 hours per week
  • Marin County: $16.00 / hr for 12 hours per week
  • San Mateo County: $16.75 / hr for 12 hours per week
What are the SCSEP eligibility requirements?

Enrollment depends on meeting all eligibility requirements, a successful interview, and training placement.

  • 55 years of age or older
  • Unemployed and actively looking for work
  • Living in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin County
  • Having a household income that does not exceed program requirements
  • Willing to participate in occupational skills training and receive job search assistance
What are the financial eligibility guidelines?

In order to qualify for the SCSEP program you must meet the federal low-income eligibility family guidelines and have been living on a family income of no more than 125% of the federal poverty level for the past 12 months.

For the purpose of calculating approximate total family income, to determine SCSEP program eligibility.

  • Pensions
  • Interest for IRA and other retirement accounts
  • Wages from an employer
  • 75% of Social Security Retirement Benefits
  • Alimony
  • Rents, estates, and trusts

What is not counted as income?

  • Unemployment Compensation
  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
  • SSI payments through Social Security
  • State assistance, i.e., Food Stamps, SAGA medical / Cash
  • Subsidized housing

Our program serves San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo County. Felton SCSEP participants must be a resident of one of those counties.
