In Partnership with the San Francisco Food Bank, Felton’s “Healthy Families, Healthy Lives” Farmers Market operates on-site within the Family Developmental Center, our goal is to provide 400 unduplicated low-income at-risk children and families free fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat, poultry, and other nutritional items. On average, one hundred families access and benefit from the healthy items offered each week.
The goal of the “Healthy Families, Healthy Lives” Farmers Market is to assist low-income families to better support children’s health and physical development by providing:
- Access to nutritious food delivered through weekly SF Food Bank Distribution
- Research-based parent education on the benefits of a healthy diet and physical activity
- A range of menus, recipes, and other information will make easier the introduction of new nutritious meals into family routines
- A culture that supports the adoption of new attitudes and implementation of desired behavior changes related to diet, physical activity and nutrition.
