Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (PSSC) Training

Felton Institute is a vendor approved by CalMHSA to provide the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Training.

Training Information:

  • Method: Online training only, using Zoom
  • Modality: 3 cohorts per year, each cohort limited to 15 participants
  • Length: up to 12 weeks
  • Typical Instruction Days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
  • Hours of Instruction: 10:30 am – 2:30 pm / PDT
  • Instruction Cost: $250 – Scholarships are available

The Felton Institute Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Training, approved by CalMHSA, is committed to providing individuals peer with specialized peer education and support for those who self-identify as having experience with the process of recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer of these services or as the parent, caregiver, or family member of a consumer with a mental health condition.

Participants learn skills covering the 17 Peer Specialist core competencies identified by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).

Topics covered include communication skills, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, the Medi-Cal code of ethics, the recovery model, and more.

Those who complete the 80-hour training will receive a certificate of completion, which they will submit with their application to sit for the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Exam.
