Sarah Y. Vinson, M.D., DFAPA (Distinguished Fellowship of the American Psychiatric Association) is a triple-board certified child & adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatrist with multi-faceted clinical, academic, and forensic consulting experiences.

As a clinician, she has provided care in both public and private clinical settings where most of the patients served are members of minoritized racial groups. As an academician, her primary affiliation has been at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), where she is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The book Dr. Vinson co-edited, Social (In)Justice and Mental Health, has been used in academic curricula and professional development programs across the country.

As a forensic consultant, Dr. Vinson’s culturally and structurally informed approach has distinguished her work within the psychiatric subspecialty. It has also informed her interdisciplinary work with the Judges Psychiatrists Leadership Initiative and the Council for State Governments. Both Dr. Vinson’s clinical and consultant work have consistently involved evaluations of people who are impacted disproportionately by psychosocial stressors, financial instability, community violence, poverty, and racism.
