Dr. Benjamin Bowser

Dr. Benjamin Bowser has served as a Felton board member since January 2025 and is on the Governance Committee.

Dr. Bowser’s expertise in community-level health outreach and professorship spans decades.  As a researcher and sociologist, he has engaged in lifesaving work that placed people struggling with substance abuse issues into treatment. In the present-day, Dr. Bowser continues his vital outreach work as Board Chair of Cal-PeP, the oldest health street outreach organization in the East Bay while also educating the next generation of researchers and sociologists as Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Social Services at Cal State East Bay.

He previously served as Research Director for Bayview Hunter’s Point Foundation and has won many awards and accolades for his research on social issues, including a Choice Award for Outstanding Academic Publication on his paper ‘The Psychological Legacy of Slavery: Essays on Trauma, Healing, and the Living Past.’

Dr. Bowser is excited to see his lifelong work come full circle through his role on Felton’s Board, calling it a meaningful culmination of his career and experiences.

Mr. Bowser received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Franklin & Marshall College and his doctorate in sociology from Cornell University.
